A Seis Pies de Distancia was an experimental approach to creation that explored the power of improvisation to connect artists working across different artistic disciplines. Each encounter was completely improvised, and the result was an ephemeral moment of creation that was unique and unrepeatable. A Seis Pies de Distancia was a docuseriesthat featured a selection of artists representative of the multi-cultural make-up of Miami.
We featured a duo between classically trained violinist Daniela Padron and breakdancing/beatboxing artist Sammy Hawk; Afro-cuban multi-instrumentalist Michael Gil and experimental and contemporary dancer Lauren Gaspard; Cuban Sitar player Arsenio Diaz and theatre actor Juan David Ferrer; and Venezuelan cuatro virtuoso Henry Linarez and the tango duo of Maximiliano Alvarado and Paloma Berrios.
This selection of artists not only explored pairings within different disciplines and artistic training/backgrounds, but also underscored Miami’s unique cultural make-up. From the beginnings of Commedia Dell’Arte to Jazz, improvisation has always played a key role in the performing arts. Through A Seis Pies de Distancia demonstrated that one can still create and stay connected to one’s artform even during times where a proper development and rehearsal process is not an option due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
