Conecta Miami Arts Takes the Stage in Madrid, Spain
Conecta Miami Arts is proud to have been invited to present its work in Madrid, Spain, at the historic Corral de Comedias de Alcalá de Henares, one of Europe’s most emblematic theatrical venues, as part of the celebration of International Women’s Month. This special international presentation marks an exciting opportunity to share Conecta’s original theatrical work with audiences abroad while celebrating the power of women’s voices and stories.
The production explores the lives of three generations of women whose experiences are shaped by displacement, heartbreak, sacrifice, and the enduring weight of family histories. At the heart of the story is Martirio, a woman struggling to reconcile the pain of human suffering with an ancestral sense of loneliness and the emotional complexities of leaving her homeland behind. Driven by her passion for music and the hope of a different future, Martirio leaves everything familiar to work in the home of a celebrated opera star, carrying with her the dream that one day she, too, might find her own voice as a singer.
Through Martirio’s journey, the play examines the invisible threads that connect generations of women: the dreams they inherit, the sacrifices they make, the silences they carry, and the resilience that allows them to persevere. It is an intimate exploration of identity, belonging, memory, and the universal desire to be seen, heard, and understood.
Written, directed, and performed by Neher Jacqueline Briceño, Conecta Miami Arts’ Artistic Director, this powerful theatrical work is part of a trilogy of deeply personal stories that explore the complexities of the human condition through compelling female characters. Following acclaimed productions such as Marguerite, Briceño continues to develop a distinctive body of work that places women’s experiences at the center of the theatrical narrative, blending emotional depth, poetic storytelling, and nuanced performance.
Presenting this work in Spain represents an important milestone for Conecta Miami Arts, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to creating and sharing original theatre that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. Through international artistic exchange, Conecta continues to amplify diverse voices, foster meaningful connections between artists and audiences, and demonstrate the universal power of storytelling to bridge cultures and generations.
