Conecta Miami Arts is producing the first edition of Miami International Children’s Theatre Festival (MICTF), a theatre festival that will present some of the best local and international children’s theatre companies to be enjoyed for FREE by Miami-Dade County Students. The purpose of this program is to develop the culture of going to the theatre at a young age by presenting plays in performing arts centers in diverse neighborhoods of Miami with the hopes of introducing children to various theatre forms and cultural traditions, in a fun and interactive way. Miami is home to renowned cultural festivals such as Miami Book Fair, Art Basel, Miami Film Festival, to name a few; it is time to provide our youth the same opportunity with MICTF!
We are proud to be hosting 1,566 Miami-Dade County students from 18 different Miami-Dade County schools from neighborhoods ranging from Hialeah, Miami Shores, Liberty City, Doral, Norland, Aventura, Little Haiti, Coral Reef, Brickell, Coconut Grove, Wynwood, Miami Gardens and North Miami.

The Tempest is a magical tale of justice and reconciliation, reimagined for children and young audiences in this delightful adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic. Produced by Miami’s Hand2Hand Team, this version of the classic tells the tale of the powerful duchess Próspera and her daughter who are banished to an enchanted island filled with fantastical beings. Through music, humor, and the clever antics of these magical characters, the story unfolds with charm and wit, leading to a triumphant resolution where love and justice prevail. With six wonderful characters as playful guides, this adaptation brings Shakespeare’s timeless themes to life, engaging young audiences in a world of imagination and wonder.

El principe heredero (The Crown Prince) is a play that delves into classic stories inhabited by kings, princesses and dragons. The play takes place in a kingdom where the crown prince is not accepted by his father. Helped by a princess from the neighboring kingdom, he manages to accept his differences and understand that this is his greatest treasure. The story unfolds through two performers who, exchanging roles, postures and voices with great speed and precision, display a physical, poetic and visual language where comedy, adventure and love are the protagonists. This production was created specifically for Miami International Children’s Theatre Festival by Teatro Fugaz, an Argentinean theatre company whose members have been dedicated to family programming for over 20 years in both theatre and television.

La Cabeza de Tomás takes place in a classroom when each Monday the teacher asks the children what they did over the weekend and receives predictable answers, except for those of Tomás, who surprises her with adventures in all kinds of fantastic situations. The always doubting teacher continues to ask Tomás until a visit to the museum changes everything. Based on the story of the same name written by Mireya Tabuas, illustrated by Yonel Hernández, and selected among the winners of the Cuatro Gatos Prize 2024. Produced by Miami’s Lugar Comun.
Performances of La Cabeza de Tomás will be held on November 14 & 15 at 10:30AM at MIAMI THEATER CENTER.

Música para los ojos (Music for the eyes) is a play produced and performed by members of the Mexican theatre company Seña y Verbo comprised of hearing-impaired actors and a conductor who perform four short stories inspired by musical pieces by some of the greatest composers of all time: Bach, Beethoven, Mendelsohn and Vivaldi. In the format of a small chamber orchestra, the actors engage in a dialogue with the music that, although it seems impossible, manages to transfer the essence of musical language to the language of moving images and objects. In this unique and extraordinary musical play, children will be able to appreciate characters and situations that are hidden in this classical musical repertoire.
Performances of Música para los ojos will be held on November 21 & 22 at 10:30AM at SANDRELL RIVERS THEATER.

Every night, while the children sleep, toys come to life. Tonight, during the Great Festival, a tin soldier who is missing a leg and a paper dancer fall in love but are separated when the jealous jester pushes the little soldier out the window. From this moment, a great adventure begins that takes the soldier through the sewer to the bottom of the sea. The brave little soldier fights to return home and save his beloved. El soldadito de plomo by Iru Teatro from Spain features shadow puppetry using the Japanese technique of Bunraku to bring Hans Cristian Andersen’s famous story to life. It is a play that promotes dialogue around physical disabilities and advocates for the importance of experimenting and taking chances to be able to realize one’s dreams.
